Are Ear Muffs Or Ear Plugs Better?

!±8± Are Ear Muffs Or Ear Plugs Better?

The two main ways to protect your hearing today is with ear plugs, or ear muffs. Some people choose to wear both, to ensure that the maximum amount of noise is blocked out. What it comes down to is the level of noise where you are working. If you are in a very noisy environment, you need a set of hearing protectors which match that sound level. Most ear plugs are not rated for very loud noises, and as such you have to wear ear muffs instead.

Once you know how loud your work place is you can decide on what to wear. Fair enough, earmuffs make you sweat, can be uncomfortable and are often bulky and in the way, but they are well worth wearing if you look at the cost of losing your hearing. I prefer to wear ear plugs, because they are comfortable, easy to use, cheap and they work well. However, if I worked in an area which was noisier than what they are rated for I would be wearing Ear Muffs.

If you haven't considered Electronic Ear Protection then this is another option, although the most expensive by a long shot. Electronic devices are fitted into earmuffs which reduce or remove any loud noises. They run off batteries, and are very sophisticated today. Many people who do shooting as a sport wear these, and they are good. At the end of the day ear plugs are just as good as ear muffs and vice versa as long as you use them for the right application.
